If you produce compost or vermicompost at any commercial scale, screening decides your grade and your margin. Most buyers compare a rotary drum — a trommel — against a flat screening bed. That comparison misses the point, because an Anand Organics machine is not a plain screening bed. It is a grinder feeding a screen, and the grinder is what changes the economics.

The grinder comes first

On every Anand Organics model, raw material enters a top-mounted grinder before it ever reaches the mesh. The blades sit in a proprietary configuration that breaks large, moist compost chunks into pieces small enough to actually pass a sieve. This matters because finished compost is rarely dry and rarely uniform — it arrives in clods. A trommel simply rolls those clods around until they exit as reject. A bare flat screen lets them ride across the mesh untouched. Grinding first converts them into product.

Grinder count rises with the machine. Chhota Bheem and Viraat carry a single grinder. Maharaja-I and Maharaja-2 carry double grinders. Samrat 60 carries a triple grinder plus an additional vibro screen that pulls out anything above two inches — stones, brick, plastic — before screening even begins.

Stones and brick do not break the machine

Hard debris is the usual reason a grinder fails. Every Anand Organics grinder is fitted with an automated spring-loaded exit system: small rocks and brick fragments are ejected rather than forced through the blades. The blades are not chipped by them, and the motor is never asked to grind something it should not. Blade life and motor life both go up, and so does uptime.

The mesh angle and the wipers

Screening is a timing problem. Too much decline and material slides off before it has been sieved. Too much incline and it lingers, packs down and blinds the mesh. Anand Organics sets each mesh at a precise angle so material stays exactly long enough to be sieved as completely as possible without clogging.

Each mesh also carries two wipers that push material back across the screen so every bit gets its turn at the openings. A trommel has no equivalent — fine particles ride the drum wall and leave with the overs, which is exactly the product you wanted to sell.

Maintenance and running cost

A trommel gives you drum bearings, a drive, and a mesh wrapped around a whole cylinder that is awkward to change and blinds easily on damp material. An Anand Organics machine asks for two things: clean the grinder, and grease the bearings once a quarter. That is the entire routine.

Rotating a heavy, loaded drum also takes continuous torque, while a vibrating deck does the same work for less draw. On a weak village supply or a generator, that difference shows up on the bill every month.

Which one suits your material

A trommel remains reasonable for coarse, dry, high-volume pre-screening where losing fines does not matter — mixed municipal waste or soil, for instance. If you are screening finished compost or vermicompost, if your material is ever moist, and if recovering every fine particle is the point, grinding before screening is the approach that pays.

Frequently asked questions

Is a trommel or an Anand Organics machine better for vermicompost?

For finished compost and vermicompost, the grinder-fed Anand Organics screen recovers more saleable product. A trommel ejects fine particles with the oversize and blinds quickly on moist castings, while grinding first turns damp clods into sievable material.

Does the grinder damage the compost or the worms?

What maintenance does the machine need?
